India were placed at 58/4, in their chase of 193, at the end of day four of the third Test against England at Lord’s. KL Rahul was at the crease when play stopped after Akash Deep’s dismissal, while Washington Sundar shone with the ball, picking four wickets to restrict the hosts to 192 earlier.

‌India ended day four of the third Test against England at Lord’s in a dangerous-looking 58/4 with 135 more runs needed to script another historic overseas win. Opener KL Rahul remained unbeaten at the crease with a score of 33, while night watchman Akash Deep was dismissed off the last ball of the day by Ben Stokes. Earlier, India restricted England to 192 in their second innings with spinner Washington Sundar being the pick among Indian bowlers with a four-wicket haul.

After starting the day at 2/0, the England openers struggled against India’s new-ball pair of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, with both using the variable bounce to good advantage. India dominated the first session, reducing the hosts to 98/4 with Siraj picking up two wickets.

However, captain Ben Stokes joined first-innings centurion Joe Root to add 67 runs for the fifth wicket to put England back on track. But the introduction of Washington Sundar in the second half of the second session worked wonders for India. The off-spinner castled Root (40) and Jamie Smith in the space of four overs as England went in for tea at a precarious 175/6.

Sundar was not done yet as he sent back the well-set Stokes in the third over post resumption, tightening the visitors’ grip over the match. Soon, the home side’s innings folded for 192 with Sundar finishing with an impressive spell of 4/22 in 12.1 overs. Pacers Bumrah and Siraj chipped in with two wickets each as England set India a target of 193.

India’s pursuit started on a rough note with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal being dismissed by Jofra Archer for nought. Though Karun Nair and  KL Rahul added 36 runs for the second wicket, England made a strong case for themselves with two quick wickets towards the end of the day’s play. Brydon Carse dismissed Karun and captain Shubman Gill in consecutive overs as the visitors ended the day at 58/4, still 135 runs away from another historic overseas win.
