KL Rahul celebrates after scoring a century against at Lord's

India matched England’s first innings total on day three of the third Test match at Lord’s before England played an over to be at 2/0. KL Rahul scored a patient century with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja chipping in with valuable fifties while Chris Woakes ended with three wickets.

‌Starting the day at 145/3, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant took India out of a tricky position, extending their overnight partnership for the fourth wicket to 141. Pant missed out on a well-deserved century after getting run out for 74, a knock that included eight fours and two sixes, as India walked into lunch at 248/4.

Rahul (100) completed his second century at Lord’s in the 67th over before being dismissed by Shoaib Bashir in the next as both set batters departed in the gap of nine balls. However, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ravindra Jadeja calmed the nerves, taking the visitors past the 300-run mark with their slow yet assured stand. The pair ensured India did not lose another wicket in the second session, going into tea with a deficit of 71 runs.

But Nitish was dismissed by England skipper Ben Stokes soon after play resumed to break his 72-run association with Jadeja. The southpaw played yet another crucial knock for the side, scoring eight fours and a six during his knock of 72 as India matched England’s 387 before getting bowled out. For the hosts, Chris Woakes picked up 3/84 while Jofra Archer and captain Ben Stokes ended with two wickets.

The England openers had to survive one over from Jasprit Bumrah before stumps were called as they ended at 2/0.
