India beat Pakistan by five wickets in a thrilling final of the Asia Cup T20 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Kuldeep Yadav picked up a four-wicket haul to restrict Pakistan to 146 before Tilak Varma took India home with a composed, unbeaten half-century.

‌India won the Asia Cup T20 2025 with a thrilling five-wicket win over arch-rival Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday. Tilak Varma and Kuldeep Yadav were the architects of the Men in Blue’s memorable victory as the side went past the target of 147 in the final over of the match.

Pakistan had a sticky start after being put in at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, as opener Sahibzada Farhan played out five dots in Shivam Dube’s first over. With Jasprit Bumrah following up with another good over and Dube building on his previous over, the Men in Green sat nervously at 19/0 in three overs. But Farhan made amends for the slow start with a four and a six in Bumrah’s next over before ending the powerplay with a boundary off Axar Patel. At 45/0 after six overs, Pakistan needed some big hits as Farhan and opening partner Fakhar Zaman provided just that as they took on the Indian spinners. Farhan and Fakhar scored a six each in Kuldeep’s first two overs, before the former brought up his second fifty in two matches against India. He smashed three sixes and five fours during his 38-ball 57 before being dismissed by Varun Chakravarthy against the run of play. But the Indian spin trio of Kuldeep, Axar Patel, and Varun shot back as the Men in Green slid from 84/1 to 134/8 in the next eight overs. Varun accounted for both openers Farhan and Fakhar, while Kuldeep’s three-wicket over bent Pakistan’s back. They finished on an underwhelming 146 with five balls to spare as Kuldeep finished with impressive figures of 4/30 in four overs. Axar, Varun, and Bumrah all played their part, picking up two wickets each.

In reply, India had a horrific start to their chase, losing three wickets within the first four overs. Medium pacer Faheem Ashraf dismissed the in-form opening pair Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill off slower deliveries in his first two overs. Shaheen Afridi also employed the same trick in between as Suryakumar Yadav’s woeful run of form continued. With Sanju Samson hitting a beautiful cover drive off Afridi and Tilak Varma hitting a four and six off Faheem, the Men in Blue ended the powerplay at 36/3. The pair played sensibly, finding the odd boundaries while keeping the scoreboard ticking. With Tilak smashing Abrar Ahmed and Sanju Samson taking on Saim Ayub, India were back in the contest with 71 runs required from the last eight overs with seven wickets in hand. But Samson fell in the next over in reckless fashion to break the 57-run partnership for the fourth wicket, as he miscued Abrar to backward point. A few quiet overs meant the required rate rose to 10.66, but Haris Rauf’s mediocre display eased off the pent-up pressure. Dube greeted the pacer with a terrific cover drive before Tilak smashed a four and a six to plunder 17 runs in the 15th over. Dube (33) started Abrar’s next over with a maximum, while Tilak completed an excellent half-century under pressure, and India sat pretty with 36 runs more from the last four overs. Though Afridi conceded only six in his final over, Tilak kept his composure to take India home with two balls to spare. The left-handed batter hit four sixes and three fours during his 53-ball 69 as India closed at 150/5 and pocketed the coveted trophy. For Pakistan, Faheem Ashraf was the best bowler with a spell of 3/29 in four overs, with Afridi and Abrar picking a wicket each.
