ENG vs IND | Twitter in shock as Shubman Gill and Siraj blasts on-field umpire Sharfuddoula for poor ball change

The quality of Duke's ball has been in the spotlight with both India and England extensively talking about it ahead of the third Test. After comical scenes marked the change of balls on day one, the pattern continued as umpires shockingly called for a ball change after just 10 overs with it.

‌With England abandoning their Bazball approach to be placed at 251/4 at the start of the second day, India were looking to press home their advantage from the previous day with some early wickets to restrict the home team in the third Test at Lord’s in London.

Jasprit Bumrah, who returned to the side for this match after being rested in the previous game, did exactly that as he answered the call of the team and the fans worldwide. The veteran pacer picked up three wickets, including the set batters Ben Stokes and centurion Joe Root, in two overs to reduce the home side from 260/4 to 271/7.

Just as India were looking to wipe off the tail, the umpires pulled off a shocker just after Mohammed Siraj delivered the fourth ball of the 91st over, calling for a ball change. Indian captain Shubman Gill was not at all impressed as the second new ball was just 10 overs old and had rewarded India handsomely with three early wickets in the first session.

With the ball failing to pass the ball gauge, on-field umpires Sharfuddoula and Paul Reiffel immediately called for the fourth umpire to replace the new cherry. Gill rushed to Sharfuddoula, engaging in a war of words with him, but the umpires could not help as the cherry failed to pass the test.

Siraj was also not amused as he explained that the replaced ball was good and only ten overs old. “What ball, no seam, nothing”, the bemused quick mentioned as the umpire asked him to continue with the game.

India is not happy!
