Manchester United legend Gary Pallister urged patience with coach Ruben Amorim after the 3-0 derby loss to Manchester City. Amorim has managed just eight wins in 31 league games, a 26 percent win rate, but United’s board still supports him. Pallister warned criticism will grow if results don’t improve and Amorim sticks with his 3-4-2-1 system.

With the pressure mounting after Manchester United’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City, head coach Ruben Amorim’s future has again come under scrutiny. Goals from Phil Foden and an Erling Haaland brace condemned United to their third loss in five matches this season, leaving them with only one win across all competitions. Appointed as Erik ten Hag’s successor 10 months ago, Amorim has struggled to replicate his Sporting CP success, winning just eight of 31 Premier League games in charge, a meagre 26 percent win rate.

Despite the poor run, the Old Trafford hierarchy remains supportive, with no immediate plans to dismiss him. United legend Gary Pallister, who lifted four league titles under Sir Alex Ferguson, believes patience will be shown but warned that results must improve. Pallister pointed to injuries to key players Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount as setbacks but stressed that Amorim’s rigid adherence to his 3-4-2-1 formation could face growing criticism if defeats continue.

He added that individual errors, rather than solely tactical issues, cost United in the derby, and urged players to win personal battles on the pitch. While Amorim holds a contract until 2027, pressure is building for him to adapt his methods and deliver quick results.
