Jadon Sancho revealed that former Manchester Utd teammate Marcus Rashford influenced his decision to join Aston Villa on a season-long deal. Villa will cover 80 per cent of his salary plus bonuses. Sancho cited Unai Emery’s confidence and plan for the season as key, while Rashford praised Villa’s family-like environment, inspiring Sancho’s fresh start after a difficult Manchester Utd spell.

For the summer transfer window of 2025, Jadon Sancho confirmed that Marcus Rashford played an influential role in his decision to join Aston Villa from Manchester United. Sancho completed a season-long move to Villa on Deadline Day, with the club covering 80 percent of his salary along with bonuses. The 25-year-old winger, who had a challenging stint at Old Trafford since his 2021 arrival from Borussia Dortmund and had been loaned out twice in the past two seasons, sought a fresh start under Unai Emery.

Sancho credited Emery’s confidence and the manager’s clear plan for the season as major factors behind his choice. “He gave me belief and confidence and really inspired me,” Sancho said, adding that he is willing to play wherever the team requires while keeping his personal goals secondary to the team’s success.

Rashford, who had spent a successful half-season on loan at Villa in 2024/25 scoring four goals and providing five assists in 17 appearances, shared positive experiences about the club’s environment with Sancho. The forward described Villa as a “family” with a supportive atmosphere, which encouraged Sancho to join. With this move, Sancho aims to revive his career and hopes to follow a path similar to Rashford, potentially achieving future big moves by excelling at Villa Park.
