Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League on 27 August 2025, and he would no longer be playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the tournament. But good news for the fans is that Ashwin will now be participating in the other T20 leagues taking place around the world, hopefully starting with the Big Bash League.
It has been reported that Ravichandran Ashwin will be participating in the Big Bash League Auction, which could make the next season his very first in the tournament. With Ashwin playing his last international match in Australia, it will be a great opportunity for him to start a new chapter in his cricketing career from the BBL.

Four teams have shown their interest in Ashwin, as the teams include Sydney Sixers, Adelaide Strikers, Hobart Hurricanes, and Sydney Thunder. If Ashwin is selected by any of these teams, it will make him the first Indian player to participate in the Big Bash League. Let's take a look at the teams that are keen to get Ashwin into their line-up for the Big Bash League 2025/26.
1. Sydney Sixers
Sydney Sixers, the second most successful team in BBL history, has shown its interest in getting Ravichandran Ashwin to the squad. The team has won three titles, and they hope to get another if Ashwin joins the lineup. Their batting line-up already has depth with players such as Babar Azam, Steven Smith, Moises Henriques, and more.

In the bowling line-up, their spin side has only Jafer Chohan and Todd Murphy, as the inclusion of Ravichandran Ashwin will help them add experience to the spin department. He will also be able to find his CSK teammate, Sam Curran, in the squad, as they have played together for a few seasons.
2. Adelaide Strikers
Adelaide Strikers have also been a dominant team in the Big Bash League, but they last won the title during the 2017/18 season. The team is already filled with star players such as Jamie Overton, Matt Short, Alex Carey, Hassan Ali, and many more.

In the team's spin department, they have Lloyd Pope and Cameron Boyce. Although both of them have experience in the Australian pitches, none of them will be able to match the expertise of Ravichandran Ashwin, who has even rattled the top Australian batters.
3. Hobart Hurricanes
Hobart Hurricanes recently ended their title drought in the previous Big Bash League, and the team now aims for another title win in the 2025/26 season. If they are able to grab the veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the auction, it will be very helpful to the team, noting their line-up strength.

The team has key players in the form of Tim David, Matthew Wade, Nathan Ellis, Chris Jordan, and many more, eager to secure consecutive title wins. Their spin department already has Rishad Hossain and Rehan Ahmed, and the inclusion of Ravichandran Ashwin will make them an unbeatable force in the BBL.
4. Sydney Thunder
Sydney Thunder, who finished as the runners-up in the previous season, have also joined the race to get Ravichandran Ashwin in the Big Bash League Auction. The team last won a title during the BBL 2015/16 edition, as they now eye their second win in the next season, if Ashwin joins the team.
