Finishing games in T20s is a thankless job and Shimron Hetmyer nailed it with a last-ball six to power Seattle Orcas to a thrilling win against MI New York in MLC 2025. With six needed off the final ball, Hetmyer pulled Kieron Pollard over square leg to trigger wild celebrations in the dugout.

‌Shimron Hetmyer’s heroics powered Seattle Orcas to their first win in the Major League Cricket 2025 season at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Saturday. The southpaw scored a last-ball six to remain unbeaten on 97 off 40 balls as Orcas beat MI New York by three wickets in a high-scoring thriller.

Earlier, skipper Nicholas Pooran’s 60-ball 108 and his 158-run partnership with Tajinder Singh (95 off 35 balls) powered MI NY to a huge 237/4 batting first. But Shimron Hetmyer and Seattle Orcas had the last laugh as the southpaw smashed nine sixes, including the all-important hit, and five fours to help his side register the highest successful chase in the history of MLC.

With 32 needed in the last two overs, Hetmyer did all the heavy lifting in the penultimate over smashing three sixes off Ehsan Adil to plunder 23 runs. The equation looked pretty straightforward with nine to get in six balls but Kieron Pollard conceded just three runs in the first three balls with Orcas needing a six to taste their first win.

Cometh the hour, Cometh the man! Fortunately for SEO, Hetmyer was on strike for the final delivery of the game. Pollard tried to cramp Hetmyer for room with a short ball around leg stump but the southpaw was ready for it as he sat down on his knee to launch a clean hit over the deep square leg fielder. The Seattle players rushed out of the dugout to the playing area as the ball was headed in only one direction after it flew off the middle of Hetmyer’s blade.

The non-striker Jasdeep Singh, who viewed the spectacle from probably the best seat in the ground, rushed towards the West Indies batter to lift him as Hetmyer soaked in all the attention. The players, meanwhile crowded the batter and jumped on him in jubilation while the MI NY support staff and players stared in disbelief.

Hetmyer pulled off a heist in a much-needed turnaround of fortunes for Seattle as they ended their five-match losing streak this year to record their first points on board.
