CD vs HH, Preview | Hurricanes will face struggling Central Districs side in Game seven

SportsCafe Desk

The Hobart Hurricanes and Central Districts will face off in game number seven of the Global Super League. While the Hurricanes will still be eyeing a top-two spot, the Stags are in a do-or-die situation going into the match on Wednesday at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

‌The Central Districts have had a disappointing run in the tournament thus far with two defeats in as many games. Not only did they call 22 runs short of their target against Dubai Capitals, Guyana Amazon Warriors held them for under 100 runs to inflict more pain in their second run out in the tournament. The Tom Bruce led side have a mountain to climb if they want to make it to the final as they would need a couple of wins, by big margins to negate the net run-rate issue, and even that may not suffice.

The Hobart Hurricanes, on the other hand,  had started the tournament well with a seven-wicket against the Dubai Capitals but suffered a narrow one-run loss against Rangpur Riders in their next. Despite the close and heart-breaking defeat the BBL Champions are still in the race to make it to the finals of the tournament since as they posses a better net run-rate than the Riders.

CD vs HH head-to-head in T20s

This will be the first time Hobart will face off against Central Districts in T20s.

Pitch and Conditions

The surface at the Providence Stadium has been a challenge for the batters who have found it difficult to score runs on a wicket that has been dry and sticky and seemed to get worse for them as the games have progressed. This explain why the teams batting first at the venue have won five and the team chasing have been victorious on one occasion in the six games that have been played in the tournament.

The weather report in Guyana does not look promising as it shows that there is a high chance of a thunderstorm in the city.

Team News

The Central Districts will be expected to bring back experienced all-rounder Doug Bracewell in place of Jayden Lennox in the upcoming crucial game

The experiment of sending Bhanuka Rajapaksa up the order to open the batting with the Hurricanes skipper Ben McDermott has not worked out, which could force the team to try Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan.

Central Districts Expected XI: Will Young, Dane Cleaver (wk), Dean Foxcroft, Tom Bruce (c), Josh Clarkson, William Clark, Doug Bracewell, Matthew Forde, Angus Schaw, Ajaz Patel, Blair Tickner.

Hobart Hurricanes Expected XI: Sahibzada Farhan, Ben McDermott (c) (wk), Macalister Wright, Jake Doran, Nikhil Chaudhary, Mohammad Nabi, Fabian Allen, Odean Smith, Usama Mir, Billy Stanlake, Raf MacMillan.
