East Delhi Riders defeated Purani Delhi 6 by 21 runs in the 27th match of the ongoing Delhi Premier League 2025 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Navdeep Saini’s brilliant spell, following Arpita Rana’s decisive half-century, helped the Riders beat PD6 to reach the top spot in the points table.

Purani Delhi 6 won the toss and asked East Delhi Riders to bat first. The Riders faced an early blow in Sujal Singh (5) off Dev Lakra’s bowling at the team score of just 21 runs in 3.4 overs. However, Arpit Rana kept dominating the bowlers; meanwhile, Hardik Sharma (8) fell prey to Dev Lakra on the last ball of the powerplay. Following Hardik’s dismissal, Rana stitched a crucial partnership of 52 runs for the third wicket with skipper Anuj Rawat. The Rana-Rawat duo punished the bowlers brutally after taking charge of the innings post-powerplay phase. Rana’s brilliant knock came to an end on the last ball of the 13th over off Udhav Mohan’s bowling. He scored 64 runs off 47 balls, with 10 fours and a six. Later in the innings, Anuj stitched some important partnerships with Mayank Rawat (12) and Rohan Rathi (18). Anuj himself ended with a brilliant unbeaten knock of 59 runs off 36 balls, with six fours and two sixes. These contributions took the Riders to the score of 172/6 in the allotted 20 overs. Dev Lakra scalped two wickets, alongside two big wickets of Mayank Rawat and Kavya Gupta, picked by Aayush Singh. Besides these two, Rajneesh Dada and Udhav Mohan also claimed a wicket each for Purani Delhi 6.

While chasing the target, Purani Delhi fell into trouble as they lost two wickets in Manjeet and Kush Nagpal for the score of just 15 runs in 2.3 overs. Opener Samarth Seth stabilised the innings with a 48-run partnership with Pranav Pant for the third wicket. Seth led this partnership with a brilliant knock of 41 runs off 30 balls, with eight fours, with Pant’s 29-run knock off 25 balls. But PD6’s run chase was left in jeopardy when they lost three wickets in quick succession within 20 runs, from 62/2 in 8.3 overs to 82/5 in 12.5 overs. Then came a resilient partnership of 62 runs for the sixth wicket between skipper Vansh Bedi and Lalit (15). Bedi led this stand with a blistering knock of 48 (26), hitting six fours and a six. But his efforts went in vain as Purani Delhi 6 were restricted to the score of 151/8 in the entire 20 overs. Navdeep Saini ended up with the brilliant bowling figures of 3/21 in his four overs, getting support of 2/33 by Ashish Meena. Apart from these two, Rohit Yadav and Rounak Waghela ended up with a wicket each. With this win, the Riders have moved to the top spot in the tournament’s points table.

Navdeep Saini won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his match-winning bowling spell, picking three wickets for just 21 runs in his four overs.
