New Delhi Tigers vs East Delhi Riders preview

New Delhi Tigers will be taking on the inaugural champions East Delhi Riders in the afternoon game of August 6 2025, at the Arun Jaitely Stadium. The battle of former teammates Himmat Singh and Anuj Rawat is on the cards, with both teams in a similar position after two games.

‌The Delhi Premier League has begun, and there will be two exciting games that will be played at the Kotla on Wednesday, starting with debutants New Delhi Tigers facing off against defending champions East Delhi Riders. This will be an exciting battle between the two teams, who boast of identical records with a win and a loss in the kitty.

There will be some major battles to look forward to as both sides have some iconic players in their respective line-ups. The biggest battle, though, is slated to be between two modern talents, Anuj Rawat and Himmat Singh. Not only are these two talented batters leading their respective sides in the tournament, but have a little bit of history behind them. While Rawat is still new to his role as the East Delhi franchise's skipper, he has led from the front in the first two games. However, this time he will be up against his former Riders skipper. Singh, who had led the East Delhi franchise to the title and was their highest run scorer last season, will now be against his former teammates in hopes of winning his second consecutive title as a captain with one of the newest teams in the tournament.

Other than the battle of the former teammates, the two franchises will be going into the game with disappointing losses in their last venture. While the Tigers were restricted to 124 runs by table toppers Central Delhi Kings, who easily chased down the target in just 13 overs, the Riders failed to defend a 200+ total against the West Delhi Lions as their bowling attack succumbed to the fiery knocks of Ayush Doseja and Krish Yadav. This game will be a chance for both teams to come back after the disheartening results.

Form Guide

The New Delhi Tigers have started their first season with an impressive 40-run win against the Outer Delhi Warriors, but followed it with a loss in their next game.

The East Delhi Riders' recent form has been brilliant, where they have only lost one game in the last five matches they have featured in the tournament.

Pitch and Weather

The surface at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, although on the drier side, is known to be an ideal surface for batters due to the small boundaries and even bounce. The spinners might get some grip and turn early in the game, but the high chances of dew in the second innings might make it easier for the chasing team. There have been 169 T20 games played at the Kotla, out of which 88 have been won by the team fielding first and 75 have been won by the team batting first.

The Temperature in Delhi is expected to be 29-30 degrees Celsius. The conditions might be partly cloudy in the afternoon, and there are also chances of thunderstorms in the evening at the venue.

Team News

The Tigers will want to strengthen their batting going into the game and might be forced to replace Deepak Punia with all-rounder Ajay Rana within the squad.

Despite the heartbreaking loss in the last game, the Riders will most likely go into the game without making any changes to their playing XI.

New Delhi Tigers Probable XI: Shivam Gupta, Dhruv Kaushik, Himmat Singh (c), Vaibhav Rawal, Keshav Dalal (wk), Parth Bali, Ajay Rana, Rahul Dagar, Pankaj Jaswal, Prince Yadav, Aatrey Tripathi.
