Abdur Razzak quits from Bangladesh’s selection panel to contest in BCB elections

‌Abdur Razzak has resigned as the national selector of the Bangladesh cricket team to contest in BCB’s upcoming elections. The former left-arm spinner will file his nominations to contest as a director candidate from Khulna division on October 6.

Apart from Razzak, other prominent names to contest for the post of BCB president include former batter and captain Tamim Iqbal and current chief Aminul Islam. The general members' body will elect 23 out of the overall 25 board of directors from the 61 nominations, with the president being elected from that pool of 25 directors for a four-year term.

"I had the honour of playing for the national team for 14 years and the privilege of serving as a national selector for over four years," Razzak said in a statement. "I believe the time has come for me to step down from this position to explore the possibilities of contributing to the game that has given me so much, on a larger scale, if the opportunity presents itself. I feel this is the right thing to do."

The left-arm spinner played 13 Tests for the Tigers, picking up 28 wickets, but he was an indispensable part of their white-ball team. Razzak had 251 wickets from 187 matches, ODIs and T20Is together, averaging 29.29 and 19.04, respectively.

Post his playing days, he took up the role of a selector in 2021 and was currently part of the Bangladesh men's national selection committee alongside chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain. With his resignation after a period of four years, the BCB will have to find a replacement for the left-arm spinner to join the panel.

"He was an invaluable member of the panel and brought his undoubted experience and vision to the selection process," Ashraf said. "We thank him for his contribution and wish him the very best for the future, which we hope will remain closely connected with Bangladesh cricket."
