PAK vs SL | Twitter laughs as Mohammad Haris resembles shotputter as return throw goes astray

Wicketkeepers often have a thankless job in the game of cricket with even a minor error looking glaringly horrible. Pakistan gloveman Mohammad Haris realised that during the Asia Cup T20 2025 encounter against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi when his throw went awfully wrong before reaching Haris Rauf.

‌Pakistan looked in total control after opting to bowl in their crucial Asia Cup T20 2025 Super Four tie against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi. Left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi struck twice with the new ball in the powerplay, with medium-pacer Hussain Talat picking up two wickets in his first over to reduce Sri Lanka to 58/5.

However, some resistance from the lower middle-order led by Kamindu Mendis’ half-century took the Lankans to a respectable 125/7 after 19 overs. Mendis was supported well by Wanindu Hasaranga and Chamika Karunaratne, who made useful contributions.

Pacer Haris Rauf conceded a boundary off the first ball of the final over before steaming in to bowl a fuller delivery targeted at Karunaratne’s legs. The ball took a slight deflection after hitting his pads with wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris rushing to collect the ball.

Dushmantha Chameera rushed from the non-striker’s end to add to the Sri Lankan total but was sent back by Karunaratne halfway. Haris smelled an opportunity and tried to hurry the ball back to Rauf, who was ready to collect it. But the throw went astray as it went high before slowly looping into the pacer’s hands.

He was unhappy with the wicketkeeper’s effort as Chameera comfortably made it back after sprinting in the opposite direction. Twitter was in splits as Haris resembled a shotputter, as his awkward throw with gloves on saved the Sri Lankan pacer’s day.

Haris was guilty of wasting another dismissal, causing a delay while aiming at the stumps in the penultimate ball of the same over. He resembled a ten-pin bowler who hit the bullseye, but Karunaratne was well safe as Sri Lanka ended their innings at 133/8.
