The second T20I between England and South Africa will be held on September 12 in Manchester. While the Proteas are just one win away from claiming the series, the Three Lions will be looking to win to keep the three-match series and their 2022 redemption hopes alive in the upcoming game.

The second game of the T20I series between England and South Africa will be held at the iconic Old Trafford ground on Friday.  While this game is set to be a do-or-die moment for the hosts, who will want to keep the series alive and avenge their last bilateral series loss against the Proteas in 2022, South Africa are just one win away from sealing the series and keeping their dominance over the Three Lions in the T20Is.

Though South Africa might be coming on the back of two disappointing series in Zimbabwe and Australia, they turned out to be the most dominant side in the rain-marred game in Cardiff. The visitors won the game by a complete team effort, where the fast-paced cameos from Aiden Markram, Dewald Brevis, and Donnovan Ferreira put them in a great position in the first innings, and Corbin Bosch and Marco Jansen’s crucial spells helped them secure a  14-run win at the Sophia Gardens. This makes the upcoming battle interesting, with the Rainbow Nation one win away from claiming the series and the hosts needing a win to keep the series and their redemption hopes alive.

Form Guide

Despite the disappointing result in the last game of the series, England’s recent form has still been fairly decent, having won three of their last five games in the shortest format of the game.

The form of the African nation, on the other hand, has still been inconsistent, with only two wins and three losses to their name in their last five encounters. They will be hoping to replicate similar results to the last game and keep putting on consistent performances.

Eng vs SA Head-to-Head in T20s

South Africa has extended their lead by two games after the resounding victory in the first game of the series. The Proteas have won 14 out of the 27 T20I games they have played against the Three Lions, while the hosts have been victorious on 12 occasions.

England 12 - 14 South Africa

Pitch and Weather

The surface at Old Trafford does assist the pacers with some extra pace and bounce of the surface, but tends to flatten out as the game progresses. The average first-innings T20 score on this surface is 156, and the chasing side might have had a slight edge in the games at the venue, having won six out of the 12 T20I games played at this ground.

The conditions in Manchester are expected to be overcast and cloudy with the probable temperature between 11-13 degrees Celsius. There are also high chances of a thunderstorm and heavy rains, which will be a worrying factor for the upcoming game.

Team News

England might bring in Jofra Archer into the lineup to strengthen their bowling, which turned out to be one of the weakest links in the first game of the series.

South Africa, on the other hand, are not expected to make any changes to their playing eleven for the upcoming match.

England Probable XI: Philip Salt, Jos Buttler(wk), Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook(c), Sam Curran, Tom Banton, Will Jacks, Jofra Archer, Liam Dawson, Adil Rashid, Luke Wood.

South Africa Probable XI: Aiden Markram(c), Ryan Rickelton(wk), Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, Donovan Ferreira, Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, Kagiso Rabada, Kwena Maphaka, Lizaad Williams.
