Jemimah Rodrigues has earned her reputation as an electric fielder in women’s cricket, and she was again on it during the England Women vs India Women first ODI in Southampton. Fielding at short mid-wicket, she came up with an excellent effort to dismiss England skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt.

‌England Women were looking to make a comeback in the ODI series after losing the five-match T20I leg 3-2. The home side decided to bat after winning the toss in the first ODI at The Rose Bowl in Southampton on Wednesday. England had a rocky start with rookie pacer Kranti Goud accounting for both in-form openers Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont in her first two overs.

However, Emma Lamb and captain Nat Sciver-Brunt steadied the ship with a 71-run partnership for the third wicket. Just as the pair settled in and looked to extend their association, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur introduced off-spinner Sneh Rana into the attack, and the bowler rewarded immediately.

In only her second over, Sneh dismissed Emma Lamb with the batter hitting a flighted delivery straight into Harmanpreet’s hands. She was not done yet as she returned to remove the other set batter, Sciver-Brunt, too. This time, Jemimah had an equally important part in the dismissal too.

The England skipper stepped down the track to send another of Sneh’s flighted delivery to wide mid-on. But Jemimah, fielding at short mid-wicket, dived to her left to complete a sharp low catch. She was delighted as she threw the ball into the air and lay down with her hands pointed upwards.

The bowler also acknowledged her efforts as she rushed and hugged Jemimah with the players surrounding them in jubilation. Twitter was in awe of Jemimah’s sharp catch to dismiss Sciver-Brunt, who was looking dangerous for a big one.
