England announced a 14-member team with Liam Dawson replacing injured Shoaib Bashir for the fourth Test against India in Manchester. The 35-year-old spinner is in line to make a comeback in Tests after eight years, while pacers Sam Cook and Jamie Overton have been dropped from last match's squad.

‌Left-arm spinner Liam Dawson was called up to the England cricket team for the fourth Test against India to be played in Manchester from July 23. The 35-year-old Dawson replaces the injured Shoaib Bashir in the hosts’ 14-member squad, with pacers Sam Cook and Jamie Overton missing out.

Off-spinner Bashir fractured the little finger of his left hand while trying to stop a full-blooded drive from Ravindra Jadeja in the third Test. He will miss the remaining two Tests of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy with a surgery planned later this week.

Dawson will be in line to play his first Test for England in eight years after featuring against South Africa in Nottingham in July 2017. The 35-year-old Dawson recently made a return to the England team in T20Is as well, picking up five wickets from three matches, including a four-wicket haul in his comeback game.

Dawson comes into the squad on the back of his impressive performances in the County Championship Division One. The spinner has picked up 21 wickets from nine matches for Hampshire this season to find his way back into the side.

"Liam Dawson deserves his call-up. He has been in outstanding form in the County Championship and consistently puts in strong performances for Hampshire," national selector Luke Wright said in an ECB statement.

With pacers Jofra Archer, Brydon Carse, Gus Atkinson, and Josh Tongue fit and raring to go, the pace duo of Cook and Overton were not retained from last match’s squad. With a 22-run win at Lord’s, England lead the five-Test series 2-1 with the final match to be played at The Oval in London from July 31.
