ENG vs IND | Twitter on the edge as Nitish Reddy floored by nasty bouncer from Ben Stokes

Fast bowlers often use bouncers as a surprise element or to psychologically shake the batters in the game of cricket. All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy was visibly shaken after getting hit on the helmet by a Ben Stokes bumper in the second session of the third Test at Lord’s on Saturday.

‌After starting day three at 145/3, the pair of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant put on 141 runs for the fourth wicket to take India to a position of strength against England in the third Test at Lord’s. However, both the set batters departed on either side of lunch as the visitors slipped to 254/5, giving England an opening in the game.

Pant was run out after making a 112-ball 74 on the stroke of lunch while Rahul completed his second century at the hallowed venue before departing in the next over. However, the experienced Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy ensured that there was no further damage as they dug deep to frustrate the home side.

The pair slowly grew in strength after countering Jofra Archer’s steaming spell before the second new ball, including the 73rd over where the pacer clocked more than 90 miles an hour. With Archer, Brydon Carse, and Chris Woakes proving to be ineffective with the second new ball, England captain Ben Stokes brought himself on in just the eighth over.

The England all-rounder shook the young batter with a bouncer in the second ball of his second over. The short ball, sent at 141 kmph, jagged back into Nitish after pitching outside off-stump. The Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder was taken by surprise, unable to take evasive action.

As a result, the ball rammed into the helmet, and the batter fell with Stokes running towards him with an apology. The physios rushed in to do a thorough concussion test as Nitish gave a thumbs-up to the bowler. And after a short delay, play resumed with India walking in for tea after the pair added an unbroken 62 runs for the sixth wicket.

Twitter was relieved as Nitish passed through the concussion procedures to continue his innings.
