WDL vs SDS Preview | West Delhi Lions to face South Delhi Superstarz in DPL 2025 Eliminator

West Delhi Lions have had a roller coaster journey in the tournament’s current edition so far. They started their campaign with a seven-wicket win against the East Delhi Riders, followed by an eight-wicket win against the South Delhi Superstarz. However, the three defeats in a row against PD6, Riders, and the Strikers gave them a big blow. But the Lions made a brilliant comeback with two straight wins against the Central Delhi Kings and Purani Delhi 6 by the margins of 15 and three runs, respectively. Their last three league games were abandoned due to rain, ending their league stage campaign at third spot in the standings.

Speaking of the South Delhi Superstarz, they also have a mixed kind of experience, with four wins, three defeats and three no-result games in their 10 fixtures. The Superstarz had a miserable start to their campaign with three consecutive defeats in three games against the East Delhi Riders, West Delhi Lions, and the Central Delhi Kings, respectively. After these defeats, their game against the Riders was abandoned before they won by three wickets each in the next two games, against the Tigers and the Warriors. Furthermore, they defeated Purani Delhi 6 by 46 runs. Their games against the Lions and Strikers ended without a result. In their last league match against PD6, the Superstarz won by eight wickets in a seven-over game due to rain. They will aim to continue their winning momentum and qualify for the second qualifier.

The West Delhi Lions won two games before their three games were abandoned due to rain in their last five games. They seem to lose the momentum, which might make things difficult for them to dominate in the Eliminator clash against the Superstarz.

South Delhi Superstarz have been through a decent run of form in their last five fixtures in the tournament, with three wins and two no-result games.

WDL vs SDS Head-to-Head in T20S

West Delhi Lions and South Delhi Superstarz have taken on each other in four games across two DPL seasons in 2024 and 2025. First time, both teams took on each other in the 13th game of DPL 2024, in which Superstarz won by 69 runs before the Lions won the 21st game by four runs. Later, in the seventh game of DPL 2025, the Lions defeated the Superstarz again and this time by a big margin of eight wickets, before the 34th game of the tournament, between both teams was abandoned due to rain.

Pitch and Weather

The surface at the Arun Jaitley Stadium is a typical flat track, likely to aid the batters in the second half of the game. The chasing side will be at an advantage considering the batting-friendly conditions in the second innings. So, batting first will be a good move after winning the toss.

The weather on Friday in Delhi will be cloudy, with the temperature hovering around 30 degrees Celsius. The dew factor might also come into the picture as the game progresses into the second half of the game.

West Delhi Lions might go ahead with the playing XI that they played with in the two games they won in the last five league matches before their three abandoned games.

South Delhi Superstarz are also unlikely to make any change in their playing XI as they registered a big eight-wicket win in their previous game against Purani Delhi 6. So, going with the winning combination might be a good move for them.
