No-look shots are common in cricket nowadays, but Amanda-Jade Wellington extended it to the field during a Hundred Women’s game in Birmingham. The Oval Invincibles' leg-spinner compensated for a wide throw from the outfield to run out Birmingham Phoenix’s Emma Lamb with a no-look throw.
In return, the visitors restricted the Phoenix’s batting to 152/6, with Ailsa Lister hitting four fours and a six to remain unbeaten on an 18-ball 33. Leg spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington was the pick among the Invincibles’ bowlers with a spell of 2/27 in her quota of 20 balls.
But the Australian leggie hogged the limelight with a stunning effort on the field to go with her bowling. The wrist spinner came up with a moment of brilliance that caught the Phoenix opener Emma Lamb by surprise. Amy Jones drove a flighted delivery from Wellington’s fourth ball in the 12th set to wide long-on and straight away called for two.
But Phoebe Franklin came running in and used her rocket arm to good effect to recycle the ball back to the bowler’s end. Wellington had some work to do as the throw was wide, but she made up for an ordinary throw with an extraordinary effort.
Just after collecting the ball, she aimed for the stumps with an underarm throw without even looking in that direction. Lamb, who initially thought she was safe after the wayward throw, was taken by surprise as the ball went on to hit the stumps, catching her short of the crease.
Wellington channelled her inner-MS Dhoni to prize out the Phoenix opener, who was looking good at 25 off 19 balls, at a crucial point in the game.
Stunning Effort!
A no look run out! 🤯
