IND vs BAN | Mehidy Hasan comes in as concussion substitute for Liton Das; not allowed to bowl

After failing the concussion test in the first session break, as a result of a blow on the helmet, Liton Das has been replaced by Mehidy Hasan - with the condition that the latter won't be allowed to bowl. Bangladesh didn't have any like-to-like replacement, which will see Mushfiqur Rahim keep.

After being hit on the head by Mohammed Shami, Liton Das took a concussion test and everything seemed fine. However, after he hit a 4, 1 and 4, he complained of discomfort and that propelled the physio to come out on the field once again. Due to the lack of a like-to-like replacement, Bangladesh instantly made Das retire-hurt and once Ebadat Hossain was dismissed, they brought in Hasan.

However, therein lies the catch. Given Hasan is primarily a spinner, Bangladesh cannot make him bowl for even an over. According to the Concussion rule, "If the ICC Match Referee believes that the inclusion of the nominated Concussion Replacement, when performing their normal role, would excessively advantage their team, the Match Referee may impose such conditions upon the identity and involvement of the Concussion Replacement as he/she sees fit, in line with the overriding objective of facilitating a like-for-like replacement for the concussed player."

Mehidy managed to score 8 runs off 13 balls before becoming Ishant Sharma's fourth victim of the day. In the scenario, Mushfiqur Rahim will become the wicket-keeper although he had declared - ahead of the Test series - that he would not keep wickets.
