Having healthy headache is great ahead of World Cup, says MSK Prasad

MSK Prasad has asserted that the selectors have a healthy headache on their hands to select the 15-man squad for the upcoming World Cup. The chief selector has also added that the team management will have to rotate some players during the World Cup and that is where the reserves will be crucial.

India is playing Australia in the ongoing five-match ODI series and it is considered as the final stage of preparation for the Men in Blue ahead of the upcoming World Cup as the players will get busy with their respective franchise teams during the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League. The team management is trying to figure out the proper combination for the team during the remaining four matches. 

Meanwhile, the selection committee chairman has opened up saying that there is a healthy headache for the selectors ahead of the World Cup. 

"Well, I can clearly say we are having a healthy headache, spoiled for choice. We need to strike the balance. This is a mega event, and we want to win the World Cup. So that is where those two-three slots are going to be very crucial," Prasad said during the India Today conclave, reported India Today.

"It's going to be a long, long tournament. We need to pick the right XI, strike the right balance. What is more important is our players have to be fit for the next 45 days and after the IPL. These are the things that we need to keep in mind.

With the World Cup starting from May 30 and the Men in Blue will have to play nine matches as per the new format of the tournament. As it will be a long tournament, Prasad is of the opinion that the team management will have to adopt a rotation policy for some of the players in the Indian squad.

"I don't foresee the same playing XI playing all the matches. We will have to rotate some of the players. That's why the reserves are also going to be crucial in this World Cup," the chief selector explained.
