MS Dhoni became only the third Indian to have played in 500 international matches for the national team after legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. India's second T20l against England at the Sophia Gardens, which took place on Friday, completed the feat for the former captain.

Adding yet another feather to his cap, Dhoni became the third Indian to have played 500 international matches on his 37th birthday. To summarize, Dhoni has now played a total of 90 Tests, 318 ODIs, and 92 T20ls, making him the ninth player to claim such a record in the log tables.

In his Test career, the man from Jharkhand has accumulated 4876 runs including six centuries and 33 half centuries before he retired from the longest format in December 2014. His ODI career boasts 9967 runs, 10 centuries and 67 half-centuries. In T20Is, he has 1455 runs and two fifties. In his role as an efficient wicket-keeper, Dhoni has managed 602 catches and 178 stumpings so far in his career.

While Sachin is holding the highest position in this category with 664 matches, having played 463 ODIs, 200 Test and one T20l, Rahul Dravid is following him with 509 matches, of which 344 are ODIs, 164 Test and one T20l.

Mahela Jayawardene (652), Kumar Sangakkara (594), Sanath Jayasuriya (586), Ricky Ponting (560), Shahid Afridi (524), Jacques Kallis (519) are some other players to have achieved this feat.
