Virat Kohli has been fined with a penalty of 12 lakh rupees for his side's slow over-rate during Royal Challengers Bangalore's 5-wicket defeat to Chennai Super Kings. In a press release issued by the Indian Premier League, it was also revealed that this was RCB's first offence of the season.

The match at Chinnaswamy stadium yesterday (April 25), between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings, saw the hosts failing to defend 206 as Chennai with some exceptional batting from Ambati Rayudu’s (53-ball 82) and MS Dhoni’s (34-ball 70*) chased down the total in 19.4 overs. However, after the match RCB skipper, Virat Kohli, was fined a total of Rs. 12 lakh for slow over rate by the match referee.

“As it was his team's first offense of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh," the press release said, as reported by Cricbuzz.

In this season's IPL so far, out of the 24 matches played, only 2 matches have been finished within the proper time period of 200 minutes for a match. It is a usual trend in the second innings that the captain and bowler taken their time while planning the rest of the match and field placements.
