In the opening match of the Chennai leg, the Gujarat Giants delivered a commanding performance to defeat the UP Yoddhas 33-27 at the SDAT Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium on Monday. The Giants ended a five-match losing streak thanks to standout displays from Mohammadreza Shadloui and Ankit Dahiya. While Bhavani Rajput kept the Yoddhas in contention with key points, his efforts could not halt the Giants’ momentum.
The match started with the Yoddhas taking an early lead, but the Giants quickly equalised at 1-1. The Yoddhas extended their advantage to 4-1, before Harish’s raid reduced the gap. Gujarat soon responded, levelling at 5-5 and taking the lead after Rakesh’s 50th Super Raid of the season earned three points. Shadloui’s raid before the first-half time-out inflicted an ALL OUT, giving the Giants a five-point advantage.
By halftime, Gujarat led 21-16, combining sharp raids and solid defence. In the second half, the Yoddhas attempted a comeback, narrowing the gap to 29-26, but Dahiya’s crucial tackles and Shadloui’s multi-point raids sealed the game. The Giants maintained control throughout, securing a six-point victory and sending a strong message as they look to regain momentum in the league.
