When the defending FIFA World Cup champions Argentina arrive in India this November, football fans in Kerala could witness Lionel Messi play on Indian soil for the first time in 14 years. Reports suggest that Argentina are set to face Australia in a high-profile friendly, with final confirmations expected soon. An official from Argentina’s football association is scheduled to visit India this week to inspect stadium facilities and logistics, which will determine the feasibility of the fixture.
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) had earlier announced two sets of FIFA friendlies for the team in the remainder of 2025. The first is scheduled in the United States between October 6 and 14, while the second window from November 10 to 18 will feature matches in Luanda, Angola, and Kerala, India. If all goes according to plan, Kerala will host Messi and his teammates as they prepare to defend their World Cup crown in 2026.
Beyond the November international fixture, Messi will return in December for a four-city promotional tour, visiting Bengaluru, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Delhi. Highlights include an exhibition match at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium and a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi, making this a landmark moment for Indian football followers.
