Tuchel dismissed striker concerns, citing Ollie Watkins, Rashford, and others as backup options.
When the England squad steps out in Belgrade to face Serbia in a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier, all eyes will once again be on captain Harry Kane. The 32-year-old striker equaled Bobby Moore’s tally of 108 England caps during Saturday’s 2-0 win over Andorra at Villa Park, a match where he had just 12 touches and two shots. Despite the quiet outing, head coach Thomas Tuchel remains fully confident in Kane’s ability to deliver on the big stage.
The Bayern Munich forward has already netted four to five goals this season in Germany, showing he is in sharp form heading into international duty. Tuchel emphasized that England are not short on attacking options, pointing to Ollie Watkins as Kane’s direct backup, while Marcus Rashford, Jarrod Bowen, Anthony Gordon, Phil Foden, and Morgan Rogers can also operate as strikers if required.
Ivan Toney and Dominic Solanke, however, were left out of the September fixtures. England’s victory over Andorra strengthened their lead at the top of Group K, but the challenge against Serbia promises to be far tougher. Kane, who became England’s all-time leading goalscorer earlier this year, is again expected to be the focal point as the Three Lions push for another vital win.
