Harry Kane believes Luis Diaz can deliver 15 to 20 goals for Bayern Munich after scoring on debut in their 2-1 German Super Cup win over Stuttgart. Kane opened the scoring before Diaz netted the decisive goal. Signed from Liverpool for €75m, Diaz dedicated his strike to late teammate Diogo Jota with a heartfelt tribute.
As the German Super Cup kicked off the new season, Bayern Munich secured a 2-1 victory over Stuttgart to claim the trophy, now renamed in honor of Franz Beckenbauer, for a record 11th time. Harry Kane gave Bayern an early lead in the 18th minute with a superb half-volley, while new signing Luis Diaz marked his competitive debut with a decisive header from Serge Gnabry’s cross in the 77th minute. Stuttgart’s Jamie Leweling pulled one back late on, but it was only a consolation.
Diaz, who joined from Liverpool last month for €75m (£65m), has been tipped by Kane to deliver 15 to 20 goals this season. Although the Colombian has only managed more than 15 goals in a European season once before, he impressed last year with 17 strikes for Liverpool under Arne Slot, including 13 in the Premier League. He previously netted 14 times in 18 games for Porto during the 2021-22 campaign before moving to England.
Diaz celebrated his goal with a touching tribute to late Liverpool forward Diogo Jota. Meanwhile, Bayern confirmed that a potential move for Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade, valued at €60m, has collapsed. Woltemade scored 17 goals last season, including six in Stuttgart’s DFL-Pokal triumph.
