Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have not been seen playing for the Indian team since the team won the Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand. With months passing by, fans anticipate their comeback to the squad for the ODI series against Australia.
Since Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from Test and T20I formats, they have just the ODI format left to play, with the aim to win the World Cup 2027. Recently, that both of the Indian stars would be playing for the India A team against Australia A in the 50-over format.
But with the announcement of the squad, both names were not there in the list, meaning that the fans would have to wait till 19 October 2025 to watch them in action. Amidst this, the BCCI Selection Committee Chairman, Ajit Agarkar, has made some statements regarding their selection in the team, which are a bit contradictory to the fans.
Agarkar’s Take Sparks Questions
When the squad for India A was announced by the BCCI, fans might not have seen any other name; instead, they tried finding the names of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. With both names missing from the India A’s squad against Australia A, it has raised some serious questions for the selection committee.

According to some recent reports, "Chief selector Ajit Agarkar recently spoke to Virat Kohli regarding his future in ODIs, but Kohli’s silence has raised some concerns. The team management had hoped for both Rohit Sharma and Kohli to feature in the India A 50-over series against Australia A.”
Although these statements didn't provide any clarity on Rohit Sharma, it was made clear by Ajit Agarkar that Virat Kohli did not respond to him about his future in the ODI format. After this statement, several fans have started to think that the time might be up for Rohit and Virat to hang up their boots from international cricket.

Rohit Sharma appeared for the Bronco Test and YoYo Test, which was held by the BCCI at the Centre of Excellence. He passed the Bronco Test on his first attempt and even achieved his highest score in the YoYo Test. A few days ago, Rohit Sharma having a gym session with KL Rahul, speculating his availability for the team.
Along with that, Abhishek Nayar, who was a part of the Indian coaching staff, was also seen having workout sessions with the Hitman, and his videos are all over the internet. Not just Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli also participated actively in the activities which were held by the BCCI.
Since Kohli was not able to travel back to India for the Tests, his Bronco and YoYo test took place in London itself, as some officials from the BCCI were sent to record his scores. Reportedly, Kohli broke his personal best YoYo Test score and even passed the Bronco Test. Sunil Chhetri, a former Indian footballer, also that Kohli texted him about his fitness test scores.
Besides that, there are several photos and videos of Virat Kohli being spotted practicing at Lord's, where he even clicked some photos with the fans. Amidst this, the statement passed by Agarkar on Kohli's unavailability and silence remains a bit contradictory.
