UAE vs OMA | Twitter guffaws as comedy of errors sees UAE let golden run-out chance go begging

Oman earned an unexpected lifeline in their Asia Cup encounter in Abu Dhabi on Monday courtesy of some sloppy work from UAE

Lack of predictability is often the bedrock of entertainment in sports, and associate cricketers thrive at doing the unexpected. Monday in Abu Dhabi was no different as both United Arab Emirates and Oman made a series of rookie fielding errors, epitomised by a simple run-out miss during the chase.

‌Oman's bid to register their first T20I win since December met the might of Muhammad Waseem on Monday as the UAE skipper struck a flamboyant half-century to carry his team to 172/5, which proved more than enough for their struggling opponents. The chase hit its first roadblock in the very first over when Aamir Kaleem was sent packing back to the hut and the score soon devolved into 41/4 by the end of the powerplay. In fact, it was only a series of horrid fielding mistakes from UAE that kept the visitors from being placed even worse when the fielding restrictions were lifted, none worse than an error in the fifth over.

Muhammad Rohid had the ball in hand against the newly arrived Aryan Bisht and on the fifth ball of the over, the swing bowler sent one drigting past the legside for a wide. The keeper failed to anticipate the movement and got a hand on the ball before it trickled down to deep fine leg, allowing the batters to sneak a single. However, Bisht was hopeful of converting it into a quick double but Shah Faisal needed some convincing -- the intermittent time enough for UAE to get a throw in with the latter stranded a couple yards down. However, to add to the comedy, the fielder by the stumps also failed to grab the Kookaburra, allowing Faisal safe passage to the crease to cap off an eventful ball.

Twitterati could not be more entertained.
