Match Report
Trinbago Knight Riders Women won the toss and asked the Barbados Royals Women to bat first. Chamari Athapaththu and Qiana Joseph’s opening pair could add only 25 runs in 4.3 overs before the latter was beaten by Jess Jonassen’s flight and was bowled through the gate on the third ball of the fifth over. Joseph scored only 12 runs off 15 balls, with only one four. Following Joseph’s dismissal, Athapaththu and number three batter Georgia Redmayne stitched a crucial partnership of 41 runs for the second wicket. It ended when Athapaththu’s 38-run knock came to an end, getting caught at long-on by Zaida James off Shikha Pandey’s delivery on the last ball of the ninth over. Furthermore, Redmayne added another important 36-run partnership with Courtney Webb (19) before Redmayne fell prey to an unfortunate run-out on the fourth ball of the 14th over. She scored 33 runs off 30 balls, with three fours, followed by Webb’s 19 (14). Later, Aaliyah Alleyne’s late contribution of 18 runs off 12 balls helped the Barbados Royals Women post 145/7 in the allotted 20 overs. Jonassen scalped three wickets for just 20 runs in her four overs, alongside Pandey’s bowling figures of 1/29 in her four-over spell. Besides these two, Jannillea Glasgow also picked the big wicket of Courtney Webb.
While chasing the target, the Knight Riders Women faced an early blow in the fourth over, losing Lizelle Lee at the individual score of just 11 runs off 13 balls, with two fours. Following her dismissal, skipper Deandra Dottin and all-rounder Jess Jonassen stitched an important partnership of 25 runs for the second before Dottin fell prey to Connell on the last ball of the seventh over. She scored 29 (22), hitting four fours and a six. Later in the innings, Jonassen also contributed with a 21-run knock, followed by Rashada Williams’ 17 (18) and Shabika Gajnabi’s 15 (12). Following these knocks, Zaida James’ late burst of 18 runs off just nine balls couldn’t be enough for the Knight Riders Women to cross the line, and they ended up getting restricted to the score of just 134/8 in the entire 20 overs. Shreyanka Patil and Afy Fletcher’s spin duo played a pivotal role in restricting the Knight Riders, 12 runs before the target.
