Match Report

In a dazzling display of power-hitting and disciplined bowling, the San Francisco Unicorns stamped their authority with a comprehensive 41-run win over the Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket 2025 in Dallas. Finn Allen's whirlwind 84 in just 38 balls and Haris Rauf's hostile spell involving three wickets headlined SFU’s sixth consecutive win in the current season.

Opting to bat first, the Unicorns started with purpose as Finn Allen continued his red-hot form, tearing into Seattle’s new-ball bowlers. His 84 came at a staggering strike rate of 221 and included eight towering sixes and five boundaries. Skipper Matthew Short provided stable support with 43, stitching a 91-run stand with Allen that powered the Unicorns to 95/1 in 7.5 overs. Jake Fraser-McGurk carried the baton forward with a typically explosive 38 off 20, as he exploited the short boundaries and punished spin to get four maximums. Although Seattle clawed back slightly in the final five overs – thanks to tight spells from Harmeet Singh (2/27) and Sikandar Raza (1/35) – the Unicorns powered their way to a commanding 218/5, their fifth 200+ total of the season.

SEO began brightly, with Warner and Mayers putting on 58 runs inside the powerplay. The West Indies all-rounder smashed his way to a brisk 50, but once Bartlett removed Warner, and Rauf came into the attack, the innings spiralled downward. Rauf’s triple-strike spell saw Shimron Hetmyer and Heinrich Klaasen dismissed cheaply, derailing the middle order. Despite a small resurgence from Shayan Jahangir and Raza, the required run rate ballooned past 14 as the Unicorns’ attack tightened the noose. Plunkett’s experience at the death and Couch’s support ensured the Orcas ended well short at 177/9. Rauf was the pick among the SFU bowlers with figures of 3/26 while Plunkett finished with 2/33.

Player of the Match

Finn Allen was declared the Player of the Match for his blistering 84 off 38 balls that set the platform for a huge total for the Unicorns.
