Chandrakant Pandit resigns as Kolkata Knight Riders head coach after three-year tenure

Chandrakant Pandit has resigned as Kolkata Knight Riders head coach after a three-year stint with the Indian Premier League franchise. The announcement was made by the franchise through social media on Tuesday, mentioning that he is looking to explore new opportunities going forward.
Kolkata Knight Riders head coach Chandrakant Pandit has parted ways after a three-year stint with the three-time IPL champions. The 63-year-old former Indian cricketer was last seen coaching the team in the 2025 season of the IPL, where the side was led by star Indian middle-order batter Ajinkya Rahane. The franchise announced his departure through a post on social media, where they thanked him for his services.
“Mr. Chandrakant Pandit has decided to explore new opportunities and will not continue as head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders. We are thankful for his invaluable contributions - including leading KKR to the IPL championship in 2024 and helping build a strong, resilient squad. His leadership and discipline left a lasting impact on the team,” the statement read.
Pandit joined the Knight Riders in August 2022, when the side was led by Shreyas Iyer. The first two years of his tenure were a struggle. Though the side showed a lot of potential in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, they failed to make it into the playoffs, finishing seventh on both occasions. However, he made sure the team came back stronger in 2024 and won their third IPL title after a 10-year gap.
Though Pandit’s future is still undetermined, one of his trusted coaching staff members, Abhishek Nayar, is expected to undertake a prominent role with the franchise. Nayar was the assistant coach of the team from 2018 to 2024 before his short stint with the Indian cricket team. After his contract was terminated, Nayar returned with the Boys in Gold and Purple midway through the IPL 2025 season. He was recently appointed as UP Warriorz coach for the upcoming season of the Women’s Premier League.
We wish you the best for your future endeavours, Chandu Sir 🤗
