England Champions and West Indies Champions took on each other in a must-win game to keep their playoff hopes alive in the ongoing World Championship of Legends 2025. The WI Champs managed to defend their comparatively low total of 164/9 by bundling out England for just 154 to register a first win.

West Indies Champions were asked to bat first by England skipper, Eoin Morgan. Ryan Sidebottom delivered the first blow to West Indies on the second ball of the first over, dismissing Dwayne Smith. After an addition of only 17 runs, West Indies lost their second wicket in Lendl Simmons on the second ball of the fourth over. Then came a crucial 44-run partnership for the third wicket between skipper Chris Gayle (19-ball 21) and wicketkeeper Chadwick Walton, before the former was caught by Ian Bell off Stuart Meaker. However, Walton stood strong in the middle for his side, playing a decisive and game-defining 83-run knock off just 50 balls, smashing eight fours and five sixes. He also stitched an all-important 80-run partnership for the fifth wicket with veteran all-rounder Kieron Pollard (30 off just 16 balls) to help the Caribbean side post 164/9. Stuart Meaker’s four-wicket haul was one of the major highlights of England’s bowling performance, alongside Ajmal Shahzad’s unbelievable spell of 3/8 in four overs, which including two maidens. Sidebottom and Samit Patel also picked a wicket each for the hosts.

While chasing the target, Samit Patel’s 36-ball 52 was the only big highlight for England, followed by Ravi Bopara (24 off 22 balls). Their knocks couldn’t help England Champs much as the Caribbean bowling attack bundled them out for just 154 runs in 20 overs. Fidel Edwards’ 4/11 in his three overs stole the show, alongside crucial contributions from Shannon Gabriel (2/30 in four overs) and Dwayne Bravo (2/26 in four overs). Eventually, West Indies registered their first win in the tournament’s current edition to improve their position in the points table.

West Indies' star performer with the bat, Chadwick Walton, won the Player of the Match award for his swashbuckling 83-run knock that dented England’s hopes of a first win in WCL 2025.
