ENG vs IND | Twitter on the edge as Ben Stokes floored by Siraj’s innocuous short ball

Though batters are wary of the bouncers sent in by the fast bowlers, the lack of bounce or uneven bounce also creates an equal measure of discomfort. Ben Stokes was taken aback by a short ball from Mohammed Siraj that did not rise, flooring him after hitting the box during the Lord’s Test.

‌With the scores level after the first innings of the Lord’s Test between England and India, the home side started day four shakily, losing both openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley, along with Ollie Pope, early on. Things worsened for the home side as Harry Brook also departed with the score reading 87/4.

But England captain Ben Stokes joined former skipper Joe Root in the middle to take England out of a precarious situation in the first session. With England's openers struggling against the variable bounce early in the day, the pitch continued to play tricks even as the ball became old.

With Mohammed Siraj pitching it on a short of a length in the last ball of the 29th over, Stokes was ready to go for the pull. The ball landed outside off-stump before seaming in with the angle as the pacer came from around the stumps.

The southpaw was taken by surprise as the low bounce caused him to miss the cherry, thudding into his box. He fell flat on the ground, right in front of the crease, lying unmoved for a few moments before recovering to get up.

Twitter was on the edge even as Ravindra Jadeja and other Indian players came to the batter to check whether he was fine.
