Jasprit Bumrah created history by picking up his first five-wicket haul at Lord’s during the third Test against England. The pacer, despite best efforts from fellow quick Mohammed Siraj, postponed his celebration as the visitors still had one more wicket to get before starting their batting essay.

‌England, after starting the day at 251/4, were rocked by pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s impressive spell with the second new ball. The pacer came up with a jaffa to go through the defence of skipper Ben Stokes in just his second over to end his stubborn stay at the crease. In his next over, the pacer cleaned up centurion Joe Root and Chris Woakes off consecutive balls as the hosts slipped to 271/7.

But the hosts went into lunch at 353/7 on the back of a solid 82-run partnership between Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse. With Siraj sending back Smith at the start of the next session, all eyes were on Bumrah as the pacer was just one wicket away from putting his name on the honours board at Lord’s.

The pacer, returning to the side after being rested for the previous game, did just that as he castled Jofra Archer to get his first five-wicket haul at the hallowed venue. With the score reading 370/9, fellow pacers Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep passed the ball to Bumrah, urging him to wave to the crowd in recognition of his milestone.

But the senior pacer politely declined the request as England were yet to be dismissed in their first innings. Twitter was in admiration of Bumrah’s wonderful gesture, as he told Siraj that they can celebrate once the innings ends.

And deservingly, Bumrah led India off the field, waving the ball to the crowd a few overs later as England were all out for 387.
