AUS vs SA | Twitter laud South Africa as they go 2-0 up after massive 84-run win

South Africa beat Australia by 84 runs at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay on Friday. Matthew Breetzke and Tristan Stubbs set the platform with half-centuries, and Lungi Ngidi’s spell ensured another massive as the Proteas claim the series with one game to go in the three-match ODI series.
South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first, and though they might not have had the best of starts, losing both their openers early. Though they only managed to get 29 runs in the first seven overs. Matthew Breetzke broke the shackles in the eighth over by smashing Aaron Hardie for 16 runs. Breetzke, along with Tony de Zorzi at the other end, made sure they made up for their slow start and ended the first 10 overs on a score of 56/2. Both batters continued to score runs after the power play until Adam Zampa finally dismissed de Zorzi in the 16th over. However, Breetzke continued to take the innings forward with some support from Tristan Stubbs to take the score to 138/3 after 25 overs. The Aussies seemed to have come back in the game with Nathan Ellis finally dismissing Breetzke on 88 off 78 deliveries and the wicket of Dewald Brevis in his next over. Though these two early scalps might have caused some problems, Stubbs kept the innings together as the visitors finished the second powerplay on a score of 233/5 after 40 overs. With Stubbs and Wiaan Mulder set at the crease, South Africa seemed in control until the Aussie bowlers came back at the death. With Labuschagne breaking the partnership with Mulder’s wicket and Stubbs was finally dismissed for 74 by Zampa. The wickets started to tumble a the backend as the visitors only managed 44 runs and lost five wickets in the next 9.1 overs, which resulted in them being bundled out for 277 in the end.
The Aussies might have pulled things back at the death overs, but had a disappointing powerplay after losing three early wickets and only scoring 39 runs in the first 10 overs of their chase. Though the Boys from down under did not have the best starts, Cameron Green and Josh Inglis’s fourth-wicket stand managed to make sure they were still in the chase. Even after the partnership between the two was broken, Inglis kept the game alive and took the score to 121/4 after 25 overs. The game was still in the balance with Inglis at the crease, but started to go South Africa’s way as the Aussie wicket-keeper was running out of partners. The game was done and dusted as soon as Inglis was finally dismissed in the 36th over by Lungi Ngidi for 86. In the end, Australia were finally bundled out for 193 and won the game by 84 runs to claim the three-match series. The pick of the bowlers was Lungi Ngidi, who finished with figures of 5/42 in 8.4 overs.
