SKNP vs SLK | Roston Chase’s all-round effort helps St Lucia Kings prevail in high-scoring thriller

St Lucia Kings beat St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by three runs in a high-scoring thriller in Caribbean Premier League 2025 in Basseterre. Roston Chase shone with both bat and ball, while Johnson Charles and Tim David also came up with quickfire knocks as the Kings started their campaign with a win.
After being put into bat, the Kings started on the back foot as medium pacer Kyle Mayers dismissed Tim Seifert and Ackeem Auguste in consecutive deliveries in the third over. But fellow opener Johnson Charles did not relent as he smashed left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi for three fours and a six in the next over. He, then, welcomed skipper Jason Holder into the attack with a six and a four as the Kings ended the powerplay on top at 60/2. Charles completed his fifty in the next over, in just 26 balls, before holing out in the deep in the next, his 28-ball 52 consisting of four fours and four sixes. Roston Chase and Tim David then added 86 runs for the fourth wicket in just 50 balls to take the side past the 150-run mark. David was the aggressor as he tonked five sixes and a four during his 23-ball 46, while Chase hit eight fours and a six to top-score for the Kings with 61 off 38 balls. But David’s dismissal in the 17th over slowed things down as the Kings could manage only 21 runs in the last three overs to end at 200/8. For the Patriots, Farooqi, Mayers, and Waqar Salamkheil all picked up two wickets each.
In pursuit of 201, the home side started promisingly with Andre Fletcher and Mayers taking them to 42 in the first four overs. Fletcher raced off with two fours and a six in the first over from Keon Gaston, while the left-hander also joined in with three fours off Khary Pierre in the fourth. But the dismissal of both openers in the space of an over saw the hosts slip from 43/0 to 61/4. However, skipper Jason Holder and Navin Bidaisee brought the Patriots back into the contest with a 77-run partnership for the fifth wicket in 40 balls. Holder was the dominant partner, amassing 63 runs off the total 77 in just 29 balls. He smashed six sixes and three fours before falling victim to Chase in the 15th over, with the Patriots still needing 63 runs in 31 balls. Bidaisee, then, shifted gears to take the side to the verge before being dismissed in the final ball of the innings. From 11 off 18 balls at the time of Holder’s dismissal, Bidaisee hit four sixes and two fours to complete a 35-ball fifty. But he fell to Kings’ skipper David Wiese, whose final over heroics saw his side finish on the right side of a high-scoring thriller. With 13 to win off the last over, the medium pacer conceded a six and bowled a wide before roaring back to give away just two runs in the next five balls, and restricted the hosts to 197/6. Left-arm spinner Pierre was the pick among the Kings’ bowlers with a spell of 2/25 in four overs, while Chase and Wiese also accounted for two scalps each.
