dewald brevis ODI debut

The moment a player makes his debut in international cricket, regardless of any format is an opportunity for them to make an impact. While some manage to thrive, some fail to deliver. Dewald Brevis joined the latter in the list as his ODI debut turned out to be a 60 60-second guest appearance.

‌The first ODI between Australia and South Africa started with South Africans being put into bat by the Aussies at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns and it were the South African batters who dominated most of the game. There were some great performances from the senior players like Aiden Markrama and Temba Bavuma but the player everyone was waiting to see was Dewald Brevis. This was the first game in the ODI format for the young batter who had given some great performances in the T20I series, where he was the leading run scorer for his team.

Brevis’s opportunity finally arrived as he came into bat at number six after Tristan Stubbs after the dismissal of Tristan Stubbs. The youngster was set to face the third delivery of the 41st over, which was bowled by Travis Head. Brevis announced himself with a terrific shot off the part-time off-spinner as he rocked back and thumped him straight down the ground for a massive six. While this was a great introduction to his ODI career, it sadly did not last that long as Head had the final say in the very next delivery of the over. The 22-year-old talented middle-order tried to look for another maximum but ended up mistiming the ball and gave a simple catch to Alex Carey at long on

The Young batter’s debut in the 50-over format turned out to be a two-ball guest appearance in the end.
