Match Report

The Northern Superchargers won the toss and chose to bat on nice on a nice and green surface at Old Trafford. Though there was some early seam movement for the bowlers, the Superchargers seemed up for the challenge as Zak Crawley continued to attack the bowlers while Dawid Malan decided to support him at the other. This approach put them in a great position at the end of the 25 balls, with the score reading 45/0 after 25 balls. The duo were looking good after the power play until Noor Ahmad came into the attack and dismissed with a wrong-un that crashed into his middle and leg stump. With Crawley getting dismissed after a fiery knock of 28 off 19 deliveries, the Superchargers' scoring rate also slowed down. As the struggles continued, the Noor returned for another over and dismissed Michel Pepper with the visitors only managing 30 runs in the next 25 balls, taking the score to 75/2 after 50 balls. Though it was a great brief period for the Originals, the Superchargers' skipper came to the crease with some positive intent. As the partnership between the two started to look dangerous, Sonny Baker got the wicket of the opener with a straight and full ball which crashed into Malan’s middle stump. Despite Malan’s calm and composed knock of 36 off 27 coming to an end, the Supercharger skipper kept the scoreboard moving, bringing the score to 122/3 after 75 balls. While it seemed like Superchargers might be getting to a big score, Josh Tongue returned for his second spell and finally dismissed the dangerous batter after his incredible knock of 41 off 24 deliveries. The right arm quick did not stop there as he came back for his final over and dismissed Daniel Lawrence, who edged it through to the keeper with a wild swing outside off stump. While David Miller’s handy cameo did manage to get the team to a competitive total of 152/6, it was the Original bowlers who dominated the backend of the innings by only conceding 30 runs and taking three wickets as well.
The Originals got a great start with Philip Salt playing his natural attacking style of cricket at the start of the innings and Ben McKinney controlling the strike at the other end. The two openers set a great platform for the chase by finishing the power play on 43/0. Though McKinney was dismissed shortly after the power play by Adil Rashid, Salt formed an important partnership alongside Jos Buttler, who was also looking good at the crease. Originals were very much in control of the game with the score reaching 87/1 after 50 balls. With both these prolific opening batters looking in great touch, it seemed like the Originals were going to cruise to a win in the game. However, the spin duo of Rashid and Mitchell Santner managed to bring the game back in the balance with the Leggie trapping Salt plumb in front of his stumps on 45 and  Santner getting the dangerous wicket of Buttler in the next over. The game was suddenly in a tight spot with the score at 112/3 after 75 balls, with Originals needing 41 off the last 25 balls. While the team was in a tight position, the duo of Heinrich Klaasen and Mark Chapman made sure the Originals took control of the game. Even though Matthew Potts managed to get the prize wicket of the South African after his explosive innings of 25 off 16 deliveries, the home team needed just eight runs off the last 10 deliveries. The game was finally done on the 93rd ball by Lewis Gregory, who finished the game with a six over long-on as Originals went on to win the game by six wickets and only seven balls to spare.
