Match Report

The East Delhi Riders had won the toss and put the New Delhi Tigers into bat. The innings did not start well for the Tigers as Dhruv Kaushik was dismissed early by Navdeep Saini by playing a rash shot outside off stump, and ended up edging it to the keeper. Despite the early wicket, Shivam Gupta, along with his skipper Himmat Singh, steadied the innings and finished the powerplay with the score at 52/1. The two continued to keep the runs flowing until Rohan Rathi broke the partnership in the 10th over, dismissing Gupta for a well-made 44, and Singh followed suit in the next two deliveries as he lobbed a simple catch back to covers after a well-paced knock of 38 off 24 balls. The match was in the balance at the halfway stage, with the Tigers' score at 86/3 with two new batters at the crease. The Riders seemed to be creeping back in the game with left-arm spinner Ashish Meena bowling some frugal spells in the middle, and also got the wicket of Vaibhav Rawal, who failed to clear the long-off fielder in the 13th over of the game. While it looked like the New Delhi side might not reach a competitive total after losing three wickets very early, Wicketkeeper Keshav Dalal and Parth Bali formed an important fifth-wicket partnership. Though Dalal was later dismissed on a full and straight delivery by Navdeep Saini, and Akhil Chaudhary dismissed Bali after a quickfire 31 off just 18 deliveries, the Tigers still finished on a dependable total of 174/6 in their 20 overs.

The first over started well for the Riders as Sujal Singh smacked Aatrey Tripathi for 15 runs in the first over. However, right-arm pacer Pankaj Jaswal spoiled the party in the fourth over, getting the two openers out with some incredible seam bowling as both batters were dismissed by edging an outswinger outside off stump. Hardik Sharma came into the middle and kept the chase alive. However, he was not supported by the other batters in the middle as they lost big wickets of Anuj and Mayank Rawat cheaply. While Anuj was dismissed after mistiming a pull shot to square leg off the bowling of Arjun Rana, Mayank missed a straighter one by Rahul Dagar as the team was suddenly struggling at 115/4 after 15 overs. There were some cameos from Kavya Gupta and Rohan Waghela to help the team get closer to the target. However, it was not enough as Hardik was finally dismissed for a score of 42 off just 29 deliveries by Jaswal. The equation was down to 15 off the last over. Though Saini managed  hit two big sixes over in the over, the Riders fell four runs short of the target in the end.

Player of the match

The player of the match was Pankaj Jaswal, who bowled a terrific match-winning spell of 3/28 in his four overs.
