Despite the early wicket, Shivam Gupta, along with his skipper Himmat Singh, steadied the innings and finished the powerplay with the score at 52/1. The two continued to keep the runs flowing until Rohan Rathi broke the partnership in the 10th over, dismissing Gupta for a well-made 44, and Singh followed suit in the next two deliveries as he lobbed a simple catch back to covers after a well-paced knock of 38 off 24 balls. The match was in the balance at the halfway stage, with the Tigers' score at 86/3 with two new batters at the crease.
