ENG vs IND | Twitter bewildered as bodacious Brook banishes Siraj beyond fence to startle Stokes

Harry Brook put on a resolute fight for England against India on Day 2 at The Oval

Shepherding the tail is an underestimated art, even though lower-order runs are often what decide results in closely fought Tests. Harry Brook in his short career so far has already proved to be a master of it, courtesy of some audacious shots such as the one against Mohammed Siraj at The Oval.

India recovered brilliantly on Day 2 at The Oval to make England collapse from 109/1 at Lunch to 215/7 by the end of the second session, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj scalped three each in the period before Tea, the latter dispatching Ollie Pope, Joe Root, and Jacob Bethell to turn the tide in the visitors' favour. However, the looming figure of Harry Brook still stood tall at the crease and showed why he is the second-ranked batter in the world by taking England into the lead without much ado before unleashing one of the most disdainful shows Siraj would have faced in his entire career.

Batting on 41, Brook defended the first ball of the 48th over knowing he had to farm the strike and protect Josh Tongue at the other end. With singles thus no longer a viable option, Brook went down on one knee early as Siraj steamed in with his follow-up and with one swift flick of the wrists, smashed the Dukes from in front of middle stump over fine leg's head for a stunning maximum. Brook could not help but boast a cheeky grin as he realized what he had just pulled off, while Ben Stokes sitting on the balcony whistled in disbelief at the sheer audacity of the shot.

Twitterati could not have been more entertained.
