Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra secures spot in Diamond League Finals

India's star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has qualified for the Diamond League Final which is scheduled to take place in India towards the end of August. Chopra finished the Rabat (Morocco) leg of the Diamond League series in fifth place this month with best figures of 83.32m.

If you consider all that Neeraj Chopra has achieved till date, it is hard to believe Indian youngster is still just 20. Chopra registered a season best effort of 86.47 meters in men's javelin throw at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. After that win, the youngster joined an elite list of Indian athletes to win a gold medal on their Commonwealth Games debut and the first Indian to triumph in Javelin Throw at the CWG. 

Now, Neeraj managed to qualify for the finals of the prestigious Diamond League Finals that will be held in India itself on August 30. Chopra finished fifth in the Rabat (Morocco) leg of the Diamond League series in the earlier part of July and secured a best throw of 83.32m. 

The reigning CWG champion collected four Diamond League points from there and made it to the Final along with five other athletes. Earlier this year in May, Chopra broke the national record at the Doha Diamond League with a throw of 87.43 meters. Besides the Indian youngster, present world champion Johannes Vetter, Olympic champion - Thomas Rohler and 2017 IAAF Diamond League champion Jakub Vadlejch also qualified for the final segment in India. German champion Andreas Hofmann and Estonian record holder Magnus Kirt will also travel to the Asian sub-continent and participate in the finals.
