Premier League and Government Unite to Expand Youth Hubs

The Government, with £25 million funding, is partnering with the Premier League to double youth hubs across England, Scotland and Wales in three years. Launched at Selhurst Park, the hubs will provide CV advice, skills training, mental health and housing support. The initiative aims to help 18 to 21-year-olds earn or learn and prevent wasted potential.

As the Government aims to double the number of youth hubs across England, Scotland, and Wales over the next three years, the Premier League has partnered to support this expansion and create opportunities for young people. With a £25 million funding boost, the scheme will establish hubs in football clubs, libraries, and community centres, providing services such as CV advice, skills training, careers guidance, and wellbeing support. Future offerings are expected to include mental health, housing, and homelessness assistance.

Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden emphasized that the initiative aims to prevent young people from being “robbed of their potential” and to ensure that support is directed toward those most in need. Between 2022 and 2025, the Premier League invested £1.6 billion into communities, supporting people of all ages. Clare Sumner, the league’s chief policy officer, highlighted that the partnership with the Government will enhance youth hubs, giving more young people access to opportunities and inspiration.

The launch is set to take place at Selhurst Park, with McFadden hosting a roundtable including the Premier League, English Football League in the Community, Rugby Football League, and Channel 4. While Labour officials stress the importance of community initiatives, Conservative voices criticized Labour’s policies on taxation and employment regulations, warning that these could limit job opportunities for young people.
