Barcelona is preparing for life after Robert Lewandowski, whose contract ends in June with a lucrative Al-Hilal offer awaiting him. Sporting director Deco wants Julián Álvarez as the long-term replacement and aims to secure him by January. The Argentine, currently at Atlético Madrid, is reportedly unhappy there, but Barça faces competition from top European clubs.

For the summer of 2026, Barcelona is preparing for a major transition in attack as Robert Lewandowski is expected to leave Camp Nou once his contract ends in June. The Polish striker, who has been central to Barça’s forward line, is reportedly close to securing a lucrative move to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, worth around €100 million net per year. While Ferran Torres has delivered consistent performances under Hans-Dieter Flick, the management believes he cannot shoulder the responsibility of being the main striker on his own.

Club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco have identified Julián Álvarez as the ideal successor. The Argentine forward, who joined Atlético Madrid from Manchester City just a year ago, has impressed with his adaptability to Diego Simeone’s demanding system. However, reports suggest Álvarez is unhappy with the project in Madrid, opening the door for a potential move.

Deco is keen to finalize an agreement by January, even if Álvarez only arrives in the summer. Barcelona faces strong competition from other European clubs also interested in the 25-year-old, but securing him would mark a significant coup for the Catalans. The move is seen as central to their plan of rebuilding a dynamic and reliable attacking line.
