Just after the departure of legendary midfielder Luka Modric to AC Milan, Real Madrid confirmed that Kylian Mbappe will wear the iconic No.10 jersey for the upcoming season. Mbappe, who joined the Spanish giants on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, had worn the No.9 shirt in his debut season at the club. The French forward previously donned the No.10 jersey during his final campaign at AS Monaco, before switching to PSG where he wore 29, 17, and 7 across various seasons.

This marks a significant symbolic upgrade for Mbappe at Madrid, as the No.10 shirt has historically been associated with creative legends such as Mesut Ozil, James Rodriguez, Luis Figo, and most recently Modric himself. The last French player to wear the number at Madrid was Lassana Diarra between 2009 and 2011.

The change reflects Mbappe’s growing stature at the club, with Real Madrid evidently positioning him not just as a forward but a central figure in their footballing identity moving forward. With the 2025-26 season on the horizon, fans will be eager to see how Mbappe steps into the legacy of one of the most prestigious shirt numbers in the club’s history.
