Coventry City boss Frank Lampard is reportedly pushing to sign Chelsea left back Ben Chilwell before the transfer window shuts. With Chelsea struggling to offload high earners like Chilwell, Sterling, and Nkunku, a Championship switch may be on the cards. Chilwell, once thriving under Tuchel, needs a fresh start after persistent injury setbacks.
For the final stretch of the summer transfer window, Frank Lampard is reportedly pushing to bring Chelsea left back Ben Chilwell to Coventry City. The Championship side, managed by Lampard, could provide an escape route for the 28 year old defender, who is no longer in Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca’s plans. Chelsea are currently attempting to offload several players, including Christopher Nkunku, Raheem Sterling and Chilwell, before the deadline next Monday.
While Nkunku is being tracked by Galatasaray and Sterling is linked with Fulham, Chilwell may have to settle for a move outside the Premier League. Lampard knows Chilwell well, having signed him during his first spell as Chelsea boss, though it was Thomas Tuchel who got the best out of him. Under Tuchel, Chilwell thrived as a wing back alongside Reece James, with both described as “dangerous” players capable of creating constant attacking threats.
Injuries, however, have hindered Chilwell’s progress since then, limiting his impact at Stamford Bridge. Now fully fit but on high wages and unwanted by Chelsea, Chilwell faces an uncertain future. Reports suggest the club could even terminate his contract if no suitable deal is found. A reunion with Lampard at Coventry could revive his career and give him regular football once again.
