Frank Lampard praised his forwards after Coventry City's 2-2 pre-season draw with Bundesliga side St Pauli. Brandon Thomas-Asante and Ellis Simms both scored, with Asante also hitting the post. Lampard admitted goal-scoring has been a pre-season challenge, but the performance boosted confidence ahead of the Hull City opener. Simms had six goals last season.

For the final pre-season fixture, Coventry City drew 2-2 against German side St Pauli, with manager Frank Lampard pleased to see both Brandon Thomas-Asante and Ellis Simms among the goals. Thomas-Asante opened the scoring, later striking the woodwork, while Simms netted a header shortly after coming off the bench. Lampard admitted that finishing has been the toughest area during pre-season and welcomed the return of goal contributions from his forwards.

Thomas-Asante, who started the game, looks to be slightly ahead in the pecking order as the Sky Blues prepare to face Hull City in their Championship opener. Last season, Thomas-Asante scored four goals in 38 appearances, while Simms registered six but failed to score in his final 13 matches and missed the play-offs. Lampard also has Haji Wright at his disposal, but the American striker might need time to build fitness after missing pre-season due to an Achilles injury.

Coventry have been actively linked with several forwards during the transfer window, as Lampard looks to add depth and sharpness up front. With competition heating up in the striking department, Lampard stressed the need for consistent performances as the Championship campaign nears kick-off.
