As predicted by many, the Indian football team dropped places in the latest FIFA rankings issued on Thursday. India is now placed 106th, dropping two places since the last rankings were issued. The downward slide came after the Blue Tigers’ put up a disappointing show against lower-ranked Bangladesh, drawing 1-1 in the Fifa World Cup qualifier earlier this month in Kolkata. Bangladesh, however, benefitted from the draw, jumping three rungs to the 184th spot.

Previously, India slipped a rank to 104th in the FIFA rankings issued in September after they lost against Oman 2-1 and pulled off an impressive stalemate against Asian Champions Qatar. Both these matches were part of the FIFA world cup qualifiers.

According to the FIFA website, the top four in the rankings remain the same as Belgium managed to hold on to the top spot, followed by World Champions France in second with Brazil and England occupying the third and the fourth spot. Top-ten rivals Uruguay (5th, up 1), Croatia (7th, up 1), Argentina (9th, up 1) have edged closer to the summit.
