The second game of the Women’s ODI World Cup is set to be played at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, and a Tasmanian battle is on the cards as Australia Women will be up against New Zealand Women in the upcoming game on October 1. The two teams had last played an ODI series in December 2024,where the Southern Stars had dominated the Blackcaps by a 2-0 margin. There will be some big stars in the game with Beth Mooney, Alyssa Healy, and Ellyse Perry representing the Aussies and Sophie Devine, Suzie Bates, and Amelia Kerr being the key players for the Kiwis. Though it is still early in the tournament, there will be a lot on the line in this game.
The Aussies will be going into the tournament as the defending champions, and though they have been in great form throughout the tournament, this will be Healy’s first World Cup as a captain, and she will be hoping to take the Aussies to their eighth World Cup title.
On the other hand, this will be an opportunity for the Kiwis to prove themselves against the mighty Women in Yellow who have not lost a 50-over game against them since 2017. New Zealand Women have suffered a 15-game losing streak against their rivals and will be looking to end their eight-year drought against them in their opening game of the World Cup.
New Zealand Women’s recent form in One-day internationals has been terrible. Though they won their last series against Sri Lanka Women convincingly, their disappointing performances against Australia Women and India Women at the end of the 2024 season were enough to show their inconsistency in the format.
Australia Women, on the other hand, have been dominating the format in the last two years and have not lost an ODI series since the 2023 Women’s Ashes against England. They are still the number one ranked team in ODI’s and have only lost one game in the last five series they have competed in
