SL vs BAN | Twitter echoes with Wanindu Hasaranga in disbelief after bails stay put on stumps

Batters often find the rub of the green that extends their stay in the middle, and Jaker Ali experienced that during the Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh game in the Asia Cup. Leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga went through the batter’s defence, only to find the ball hit the stumps without the bails coming off.

‌Sri Lanka had the perfect start to their Asia Cup T20 2025 campaign after opting to bowl at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The new-ball duo of Nuwan Thushara and Dushmantha Chameera gave the Lankans a perfect start with back-to-back wicket maidens to put the Tigers on the back foot.

Captain Litton Das provided some resistance, but Wanindu Hasaranga’s introduction in the eighth over furthered the island nation’s advantage. The leg spinner caught Mahedi Hasan right in front of the wicket with his deceiving googly as the score read 38/4.

In his next over, he almost got Jaker Ali with a similar delivery that pitched outside off and turned back into the batter. The ball went through the bat and pads of the clueless batter to kiss the timber. But to the bowler’s horror, the lights briefly lit up, but the bails were quickly back in place on top of the stumps.

Hasaranga was shocked as he pointed towards the timber in disbelief, while wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis was frustrated as he checked the lighting by punching the bails off. Just as the umpire came running to set the stumps, Mendis once again repeated the act and complained to the umpire.

Twitter was shocked too, as they sympathised with Hasaranga, who did everything in his power to send Ali back.
